This richly researched book untangles the discourse on education for African leaders, which involved diverse actors such as colonial officials, missionaries, European and American educationists or ideologues in Africa and diaspora. The analysis is presented around two foci of decision-making: one is the Memorandum on Education Policy in British Tropical Africa, issued by the British Colonial Office in 1923; another is the Achimota School established on the Gold Coast Colony (present-day Ghana) as a model school in 1927. Ideas brought from different sources were mingled and converged on the areas where the motivations of actors have coincided. The local and the global was linked through the chains of discourse, interacting with global economic, political and social concerns. The book also vividly describes how the ideals of colonial education were realized in Achimota School."--Page [4] of cover. 588 Description based on print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 Achimota School.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n92035881 610 27 Achimota School.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 676632 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Education and state|zAfrica|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009100051|xHistory|y20th century. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Education and state|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85041091|zGhana|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n80061117-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 7 Education and state.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 902835 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Colonies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/868456 650 7 Education.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/902499 651 0 Great Britain|xColonies|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85056632|xEducation|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005758|xHistory|y20th century. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 651 7 Africa.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1239509 651 7 Great Britain.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 651 7 Ghana.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1208741 655 0 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aYamada, Shoko.|t'Dignity of Labour' for African Leaders.|dMankon, Bamenda, Cameroon : Langaa Research & Publishing CIG, [2018]|z9956550000 |w(OCoLC)1035364678 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1824550|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
