Although 70 percent of those interviewed felt that their careers had been hindered by discrimination, less than a handful expressed any regrets about choosing a career in chemistry. Remarkably, these chemists refused to allow racism to stifle their achievement. Although a disproportionate number of the chemists had their birth origins in the South, however, most pursued their careers outside the region and branched out across the nation. Many of those individuals had profound impacts in both industrial and academic settings but this book also chronicles the hardships that many faced. This book provides the opportunity for a full range of voices, from a number of perspectives, to be heard. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 African American chemists|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh88000057|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781|vInterviews.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001682 650 0 Chemistry|xStudy and teaching (Higher)|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh85023009|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 African American students|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85001908|xEducation|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005758|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Discrimination in education|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008117521 650 0 Discrimination in employment|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85038390 650 7 African American chemists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/799070 650 7 Chemistry|xStudy and teaching (Higher)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/853437 650 7 African American students.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/799375 650 7 Discrimination in education.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/895037 650 7 Discrimination in employment.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/895050 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Interviews.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423832 655 7 Interviews.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026115 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPearson, Willie, 1945-|tBeyond small numbers.|dAmsterdam ; London : Elsevier, 2005|z0762305622 |z9780762305629|w(OCoLC)60606171 830 0 Diversity in higher education ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no00022378|vv. 4. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=203080|zOnline eBook.
