She provides an analytical introduction to the literature, showing how generational differences play out in genre and text. In addition, she asks, can the term Vietnamese American be disassociated from representations of the war without erasing its legacy? Pelaud delineates the historical, social, and cultural terrains of the writing as well as the critical receptions and responses to them. She moves beyond the common focus on the Vietnam war to develop an interpretive framework that integrates post-colonialism with the multi-generational refugee, immigrant, and transnational experiences at the centre of Vietnamese American narratives. Her readings of key works, such as Andrew Pham's Catfish and Mandala and Lan Cao's Monkey Bridge show how trauma, racism, class and gender play a role in shaping the identities of Vietnamese American characters and narrators. 647 7 Vietnam War|d(1961-1975)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1431664 650 0 American literature|xVietnamese American authors|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh98006013|xHistory and criticism.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99001187 650 0 Vietnamese Americans in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010008468 650 0 Cultural fusion in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2005000887 650 0 Multiculturalism in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh96003225 650 0 Race in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94008443 650 0 Vietnamese Americans|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85143275|xEthnic identity.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005645 650 0 History in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85061253 650 0 Vietnam War, 1961-1975|xLiterature and the war.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008113220 650 7 American literature|xVietnamese American authors.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/807267 650 7 Vietnamese Americans in literature.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1905050 650 7 Cultural fusion in literature.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1902958 650 7 Multiculturalism in literature.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1028865 650 7 Race in literature.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1086506 650 7 Vietnamese Americans|xEthnic identity.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1166671 650 7 Vietnamese Americans.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1166663 650 7 History in literature.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /958338 830 0 Asian American history and culture.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n90654935 901 MARCIVE 20231220 935 564042 994 C0|bRID
