An 'archaeology of place' attempts to move beyond the understanding of the landscape as inert background or static fossil of human behaviour. From a specifically mortuary perspective, this approach entails a focus on the inherently mutable, transient and performative qualities of 'deathscapes': how they are remembered, obliterated, forgotten, reworked, or revisited over time. Despite latent interest in this line of enquiry, few studies have explored the topic explicitly in Aegean archaeology. This book aims to identify ways in which to think about the deathscape as a cross between landscapes, tombs, bodies, and identities, supplementing and expanding upon well explored themes in the field (e.g. tombs as vehicles for the legitimization of power; funerary landscapes as arenas of social and political competition). The volume recasts a wealth of knowledge about Aegean mortuary cultures against a theoretical background, bringing the field up to date with recent developments in the archaeology of place"--Publisher's website. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Archaeology and history|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85006513|zGreece.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80046090-781 650 0 Funeral rites and ceremonies|zGreece.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009125632 650 0 Burial|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85018080 |zGreece.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80046090- 781 650 0 Landscape archaeology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94001190|zGreece.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80046090-781 650 0 Excavations (Archaeology)|zGreece.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85046135 650 0 Civilization, Aegean.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85026430 650 7 Archaeology and history.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/813004 650 7 Funeral rites and ceremonies.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/936223 650 7 Burial.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/841751 650 7 Landscape archaeology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /991791 650 7 Excavations (Archaeology)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/917564 650 7 Civilization, Aegean.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 862943 651 7 Greece.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1208380 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Dakouri-Hild, Anastasia,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/nb2006001038|eeditor. 700 1 Boyd, Michael J.,|d1970-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2002043051|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tStaging death.|dBerlin : De Gruyter, [2016]|z9783110475784|w(OCoLC)967948703 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1458988|zOnline eBook.
