From the margins and for the margins: studying the nineteenth- century press today -- 2. Bibliographic codes and visual modes: the role of the visual on page and screen -- 3. Editions and archives / James Mussell and Suzanne Paylor - - 4. Newspapers and periodicals in class -- Conclusion: we have always been users. 520 Newspapers and periodicals have long been recognized as indispensable resources for those interested in all aspects of the nineteenth century, but they remain neglected due to difficulties working with the large and complicated print archive. In The Nineteenth-Century Press in the Digital Age, Mussell provides an accessible account of how this archive has been transformed through digitization. Now that it is relatively accessible, he argues that we cannot afford to continue to ignore this material. However, we must be able to understand both the complicated forms of newspapers and periodicals and how they have been transformed by various digital resources. In this book, Mussell situates both the print and the digital within a broader media history and argues that the way to understand a culture is through its media, whether this is in the nineteenth century, or today. 588 0 Online resource; title from e-book title screen (EBL platform, viewed January 27, 2014). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 19th century|2fast 648 7 1800-1899|2fast 650 0 Newspapers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85091588|xDigitization.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002011497 650 0 Periodicals|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85099890|xDigitization.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002011497 650 0 English newspapers|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008119687|y19th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002012475 650 0 English periodicals|xHistory|y19th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008119688 650 0 Archival materials|xSelection for preservation.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh97007223 650 0 Books and reading.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85015758 650 7 Newspapers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1037111 650 7 Periodicals.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1058072 650 7 English newspapers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 912226 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 English periodicals.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 912239 650 7 HISTORY|zEurope|xGreat Britain.|2bisacsh 650 7 HISTORY|xModern|x19th Century.|2bisacsh 650 7 HISTORY|xSocial History.|2bisacsh 650 7 Archival materials|xSelection for preservation.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/814010 650 7 LITERARY CRITICISM|xBooks & Reading.|2bisacsh 650 7 Books and reading.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 836454 650 7 LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES|xLibrary & Information Science |xGeneral.|2bisacsh 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMussell, James.|tNineteenth-Century Press in the Digital Age.|dNew York : Palgrave Macmillan, 2012|z9780230235533|w(DLC) 2011049339|w(OCoLC)748328687 830 0 Palgrave studies in the history of the media.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2010108578 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=433284|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
