Summary |
The ballet paintings by Edgar Degas are among the most famous works of art for their pleasing beauty and their delicate and seducing touch. Surprisingly, many of his paintings were considered shocking and subversive by his contemporaries. This 60 minute movie is mainly rooted in the detailed research lead by Richard Kendall and Jill de Vonyar, the curators of an exceptional exhibition which took place in October 2002 in the United States. The movie offers an exceptional insight into the building and the archive department of the Palais Garnier. The Parisian opera was opened on 1875, when Degas was 30¡; and the painter was to spend a great amount of time in it for the following 20 years. |
