Afro-Bolivian Spanish is one of the many Afro-Hispanic dialects spoken across Latin America and, from a theoretical point of view, is rich in constructions that would be considered ungrammatical in standard Spanish. Yet these constructions form the core grammar of these less-prestigious, but equally efficient, syntactic systems. Because of the wide variety of their usages, Sessarego's study of these contact varieties is particularly valuable in developing and refining theories of syntactic microvariation. This dialect presents phenomena that offer a real challenge to current linguistic theory. The Afro-Bolivian Spanish Determiner Phrase elaborates on the importance of enhancing a stronger dialogue between formal generative theory and sociolinguistic methodology, in line with recent work in the field of minimalist syntax. Sessarego's study combines sociolinguistic techniques of data collection with generative models of data analysis to obtain more fine- grained, empirically testable generalizations"--|cProvided by publisher. 588 Description based on print version record. 590 Project Muse|bProject Muse Open Access 650 0 Sociolinguistics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85124195|zBolivia.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n79066590-781 650 0 Black people|zBolivia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2010004782|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Black people|zBolivia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2010004782|xLanguages.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006384 650 0 African languages|xInfluence on Spanish.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2022003419 650 0 Spanish language|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85126261|zBolivia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79066590-781|xForeign elements|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005783|xAfrican. 650 0 Spanish language|xDialects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99001734|zBolivia.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79066590-781 650 0 Spanish language|xDialects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99001734|zBolivia|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79066590-781|xGrammar.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004914 650 0 Spanish language|xDialects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99001734|zBolivia|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79066590-781|xDeterminers.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005533 650 7 LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / Linguistics / General. |2bisacsh 650 7 Sociolinguistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1123847 650 7 Black people.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/833880 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Language and languages.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/992154 650 7 African languages|xInfluence on Spanish.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/799813 650 7 Spanish language.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1128292 650 7 Spanish language|xDialects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1128340 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/946126 651 7 Bolivia.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1205549 655 7 Electronic books. .|2local 710 2 Project Muse,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n96089174|edistributor. 830 0 Book collections on Project MUSE. 856 40 |zOnline eBook.
