Summary Program #768 : Title: Remembering Sakharov "From 1966, when he emerged as a dissident, to his death in 1989, Andrei Sakharov was a stinging critic of Soviet repression. His status as a Nobel Prize winning scientist gave him international prestige and heightened official concern over his influence beyond the USSR. Seven years of exile in the city of Gorky did not silence him. When he was freed he lent his support to the reformist agenda of Mikhail Gorbachev and was a vital factor in Russia's transformation. Through it all the KGB kept a close watch on Sakharov but never understood his motivation or his method. Joshua Rubenstein, co-editor of the KGB file of Andrei Sakharov, recounts the history of KGB surveillance."--Track sheet.
Program #769 : Title: The red Riviera. "Under Communism, Bulgaria developed a robust tourist industry mainly oriented to visiting families from socialist countries. Women achieved considerable success in that industry in a variety of professions; including the most lucrative administrative positions. With the transition of capitalism, tourism remains a prestigious career and it is still dominated by Bulgarian women. Western feminist experts generally fail to appreciate this record of success and their prescriptions for Bulgarian women are, therefore, often inaccurate. Kristen Ghodsee, author of Red Riviera, explains why."--Track sheet.
Commentary #207 : Title: "What it means when you take that oath of office. We live in an era when the White House is growing stronger at the expense of Congress, and when the close ties that our Founders envisioned between Congress and the people have frayed. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton thinks members of Congress need to pay closer attention to the Constitution they've sworn to defend, and explains, 'What it means when you take that oath of office. '"--Track sheet.
Commentary #208 : Title: " America's current accounts deficit is huge and growing. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton that our trade imbalances pose serious problems."--Track sheet.
