From the earliest societies through to the present, all humans have faced choices regarding how people in positions of dependency are to be treated. As such, care-giving, and the form it takes, is a central experience of being a human and one that is culturally mediated. Archaeology has tended to marginalise the study of care, and debates surrounding our ability to recognise it within the archaeological record have often remained implicit rather than a focus of discussion. These 12 papers examine the topic of care in past societies and specifically how we might recognise the provision of care in archaeological contexts and to open up an inter- disciplinary conversation, including historical, bioarchaeological, faunal and philosophical perspectives. The topic of 'care' is examined through three different strands: the provision of care throughout the life course, namely that provided to the youngest and oldest members of a society; care-giving and attitudes towards impairment and disability in prehistoric and historic contexts, and the role of animals as both recipients of care and as tools for its provision"--Publisher description. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Social archaeology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85123909 650 0 Archaeology and history.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85006513 650 0 Caregivers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh88007577|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Caring|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85020325 |xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh00002758|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Child care|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85023354|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Older people|xCare|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85002090|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 People with disabilities|xCare|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85058664|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Animal welfare|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85005274|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 650 7 Social archaeology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1122274 650 7 Archaeology and history.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/813004 650 7 Caregivers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/847331 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Caring.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/847566 650 7 Social aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1354981 650 7 Child care.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/854292 650 7 Older people|xCare.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1199096 650 7 People with disabilities|xCare.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1057251 650 7 Animal welfare.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/809431 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Powell, Lindsay|q(Lindsey Anne),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2017188950|eeditor. 700 1 Southwell-Wright, William,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n2016053996|eeditor. 700 1 Gowland, Rebecca,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nb2006018668|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tCare in the past.|dOxford ; Philadelphia : Oxbow Books, 2017|z9781785703355|w(DLC) 2016044905 |w(OCoLC)966742718 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1440300|zOnline eBook.
