The program seeks to build resilience in children by teaching them to access inner resources and build positive connections with others. The SFK program is unlike most after-school programs both in its focus on spiritual development and in its emphasis on outcomes related to resilience rather than academics. The authors found that the program had beneficial effects on adaptive skills, behavioral problems, overexternalization of problems, and school problems, and the effects persisted at 12-week follow-up. Interestingly, the program positively affected school-related outcomes, even though SFK is not an academic intervention. Specifically, it improved reported study skills and reduced reported learning problems and attention problems. Overall, a major strength of the program appears to be its careful attention to uniformity of program delivery -- in particular, its standardized curriculum, use of experienced teachers, and formal teacher-training program. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 After-school programs|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2005000275|zFlorida|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79053995-781|xEvaluation.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00005674 650 0 Social skills|xStudy and teaching (Elementary)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010113800|xActivity programs. 650 0 Child development|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85023357|zFlorida|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n79053995-781|xEvaluation.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005674 650 0 Interpersonal relations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85067484|zFlorida.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79053995-781 650 0 Educational evaluation.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh86007568 650 7 After-school programs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1736854 650 7 Evaluation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/916975 650 7 Social skills|xStudy and teaching (Elementary)|xActivity programs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1123336 650 7 Social skills|xStudy and teaching (Elementary)|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1123335 650 7 Child development.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 854393 650 7 Interpersonal relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/977397 650 7 Educational evaluation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/903437 651 7 Florida.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1205150 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Gaillot, Sarah.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008033254 710 2 Labor and Population Program.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no93029122 710 2 Rand Corporation.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78083407 710 2 Success for Kids Foundation.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2011013531 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMaestas, Nicole.|tOutcome evaluation of the success for kids program.|dSanta Monica, CA : RAND, 2010|z9780833051240|w(OCoLC)692231466 830 0 Technical report (Rand Corporation) ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2005069635|vTR-575-1-SFK. 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/tr5751sfk|zOnline ebook.
