This work analyzes how a disputed political partnership between Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania intersects with the construction of religious identities. Undertaken at a time of political tensions, the case study of Zanzibar's largest Pentecostal church, the City Christian Center, outlines religious belonging as relationally filtered in- between experiences of social insecurity, altered minority / majority positions, and spiritual powers. Hans Olsson shows that Pentecostal Christianity, as a signifier of (un)wanted social change, exemplifies contested processes of becoming in Zanzibar that capitalizes on, and creates meaning out of, religious difference and ambient political tensions. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on August 16, 2019). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Pentecostal churches|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85099633|zTanzania|zZanzibar.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80121277-781 650 0 Pentecostals|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85099639|zTanzania|zZanzibar|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80121277-781|xSocial conditions.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001008850 650 0 Pentecostalism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85099634|xRelations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00007590|xIslam. 650 0 Christianity and other religions|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85025250|zTanzania|zZanzibar. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80121277-781 650 7 Pentecostal churches.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1057180 650 7 Pentecostals.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1057210 650 7 Social conditions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919811 650 7 Pentecostalism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1057199 650 7 Relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1892706 650 7 Islam.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/979776 650 7 Christianity and other religions.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/859685 650 7 Christianity.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/859599 650 7 Interfaith relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1353343 651 7 Tanzania|zZanzibar.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1250037 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aOlsson, Hans.|tJesus for Zanzibar: Narratives of Pentecostal (Non- )Belonging, Islam, and Nation.|dBoston : BRILL, ©2019|z9789004406810 830 0 Studies on religion in Africa ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n86740373|v48. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2226576|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
