The book's authors share a critical orientation towards policy and policy research and invite readers to think differently about what policy is, who policymakers are, and what policy can achieve. Their chapters discuss findings from research grounded in diverse theories, including institutional ethnography, critical disability theory, and critical race theory. The authors encourage FSC scholars to ask who benefits from policies (and who loses) and how proposed reforms maintain or disrupt existing relations of power. The chapters present original research on a broad range of policies at the local, state/provincial, and national levels in Canada and the USA. Some authors look closely at the enactment of specific district policies, including a school district's language translation policy and a to policy create local advisory bodies as part of decentralization efforts. Other chapters reveal the often unacknowledged yet necessary work parents do to meet their children's needs and enable schools to operate. A few chapters focus on challenges and paradoxes of including families and community members in policymaking processes, including a case where parents demonstrated a preference for a policy that research demonstrates is detrimental to their children's future education opportunities. Another set of chapters emphasizes the centrality of policy texts and how language influences the educational experiences and engagement of students and their families. Each chapter concludes with a discussion of implications of the research for educators, families, and other community partners"--|cProvided by publisher. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Education and state|zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008118772 650 0 Education and state|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008102666 650 0 School management and organization|zCanada.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010112087 650 0 School management and organization|zUnited States.|0https: //id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008111250 650 0 Home and school|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85061663|zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79007233-781 650 0 Home and school|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008105641 650 0 Community and school|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85029197|zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Community and school|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85029198 650 7 Education and state.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 902835 650 7 School management and organization.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1107575 650 7 Home and school.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 959097 650 7 Community and school.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 870669 651 7 Canada.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204310 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Winton, Sue,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2019181500|eeditor. 700 1 Parekh, Gillian,|d1977-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2016012932|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aWinton, Sue|tCritical Perspectives on Education Policy and Schools, Families, and Communities |dCharlotte, NC : Information Age Publishing, Incorporated, c2020|z9781641138802 830 0 Family, school, community, partnership issues.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2004101293 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2275952|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
