Jose Eustaquio Ribeiro Vieira Filho and Albert Fishlow argue that tropical agriculture depends on institution building with a focus on science and technology. As such, modern agriculture is a knowledge-intensive sector, similar in Brazil to its oil and aviation industries. Filho and Fishlow tackle the theme of industrial innovation from various angles.
