The book's methodological scaffold is based on proposals and insights from multiple research fields, such as comparative conversation analysis, sociology, interactional linguistics, documentary linguistics, anthropological linguistics, and prosodic typology. The interactional patterns of a small Arawak language of Peru are shown to share the common infrastructure reported in the organization of conversation across other languages and cultures. Yet the analysis demonstrates a variety of unique nuances in the organization of interactional behavior of Alto Perene Arawak participants. The peculiarities observed are attributed to the language- specific semiotic resources and participants' orientation to the local cultural norms. The book's structured examination of conversational data of a small indigenous language of South America is anticipated to be of utility to linguistic research on understudied non-Western languages. 588 0 Print version record and CIP data provided by publisher. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Arawak language.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85006445 650 0 Arawak Indians|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85006444|xSocial life and customs.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001008851 650 0 Conversation analysis|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94001018|zPeru.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79055130-781 650 0 Discourse analysis|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85038362|zPeru.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79055130-781 650 0 Endangered languages|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2005005642|zPeru.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79055130-781 650 0 Campa languages|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85019183|zPeru|zPerene River Valley.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh96000118-781 650 0 Communication and culture|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh88005224|zPeru.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79055130-781 650 7 Arawak language.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 812744 650 7 Arawak Indians|xSocial life and customs.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/812742 650 7 Arawak Indians.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/812740 650 7 Conversation analysis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /877220 650 7 Discourse analysis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 894932 650 7 Endangered languages.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1738357 650 7 Campa languages.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 844839 650 7 Communication and culture.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/870039 651 0 Perene River Valley (Peru)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh96000118|xLanguages.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006384 651 7 Peru.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1205190 651 7 Peru|zPerene River Valley.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1274913 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Santos Pérez, Gregorio,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2014048686|eauthor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMihas, Elena.|tConversational structures of Alto Perené (Arawak) of Peru.|dAmsterdam ; Philadelphia : John Benjamins Publishing Company, [2017]|z9789027259462 |w(DLC) 2016044180 830 0 Studies in language companion series.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n42023920 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1457260|zOnline eBook.
