Decolonizing Discipline is a response to Call to Action 6--the call to repeal Section 43 of Canada's Criminal Code, which justifies the corporal punishment of children. Editors Valerie Michaelson and Joan Durrant have brought together diverse voices to respond to this call and to consider the ways that colonial Western interpretations of Christian theologies have been used over centuries to normalize violence and rationalize the physical discipline of children. Theologians, clergy, social scientists, and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis leaders and community members explore the risks that corporal punishment poses to children and examine practical, non-violent approaches to discipline. The authors invite readers to participate in shaping this country into one that does not sanction violence against children. The result is a multifaceted exploration of theological debates, scientific evidence, and personal journeys of the violence that permeated Canada's Residential Schools and continues in Canadian homes today. Together, they compel us to decolonize discipline in Canada."--|cProvided by publisher. 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on September 14, 2020). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Corporal punishment of children|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2004011624|zCanada|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781|xReligious aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006568 650 0 Corporal punishment|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85032889|zCanada|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781|xReligious aspects.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006568 650 0 Discipline of children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85038330|zCanada|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781|xReligious aspects.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006568 650 0 Indigenous children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2003010197|xViolence against|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99002424|zCanada.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Corporal punishment of children|xLaw and legislation |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2004011626 |zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233- 781 650 0 Corporal punishment|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85032889|xLaw and legislation|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004848|zCanada.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 7 Corporal punishment of children.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1736309 650 7 Corporal punishment.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 879608 650 7 Discipline of children.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/894847 650 7 Indigenous children.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 970206 650 7 Corporal punishment of children|xLaw and legislation. |2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1765357 650 7 Corporal punishment|xLaw and legislation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/879610 651 7 Canada.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204310 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Michaelson, Valerie,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n2018184350|eeditor. 700 1 Durrant, Joan E.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nr00036210|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tDecolonizing discipline.|dWinnipeg, Manitoba : University of Manitoba Press, 2020|z0887558658 |z9780887558658|w(OCoLC)1149382722 830 0 Perceptions on truth and reconciliation ;|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2021005051|v3. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2576400|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
