This report documents an assessment of a predictive policing effort in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2012, which was conducted to evaluate the crime reduction effects of policing guided by statistical predictions. RAND researchers led multiple interviews and focus groups with the Shreveport Police Department throughout the course of the trial to document the implementation of the statistical predictive and prevention models. In addition to a basic assessment of the process, the report shows the crime impacts and costs directly attributable to the strategy. It is hoped that this will provide a fuller picture for police departments considering if and how a predictive policing strategy should be adopted. There was no statistically significant change in property crime in the experimental districts that applied the predictive models compared with the control districts; therefore, overall, the intervention was deemed to have no effect. There are both statistical and substantive possibilities to explain this null effect. In addition, it is likely that the predictive policing program did not cost any more than the status quo."-- "Abstract" on web page. 536 "This project was supported ... by the National Institute of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice."--Verso of title page." ... by Award No.|c2009-IJ -CX-K114." 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (RAND, viewed August 06, 2014). 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Crime prevention|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85034011|zLouisiana|zShreveport.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80098248-781 650 0 Offenses against property|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85094149|xPrevention.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99002416 650 0 Law enforcement|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85075302|zLouisiana|zShreveport.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80098248-781 650 0 Police administration|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85104214|zLouisiana|zShreveport|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80098248-781|vCase studies. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001484 650 0 Regression analysis.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85112392 650 0 Forecasting|xStatistical methods.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009125391 650 0 Social prediction|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85123986|zLouisiana|zShreveport.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80098248-781 650 7 Crime prevention.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 883055 650 7 Offenses against property|xPrevention.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1044013 650 7 Offenses against property.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1044007 650 7 Law enforcement.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 993931 650 7 Police administration.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1068547 650 7 Regression analysis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1432090 650 7 Forecasting|xStatistical methods.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/931736 650 7 Social prediction.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1122769 651 7 Louisiana|zShreveport.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1209612 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Case studies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423765 655 7 Technical reports.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2015026093 655 7 Technical reports.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1941336 655 7 Case studies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2017026140 700 1 Saunders, Jessica M.,|d1978-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2008083469|eauthor. 700 1 Hollywood, John S.,|d1973-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n2003011885|eauthor. 710 2 Rand Corporation,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78083407|eissuing body. 710 2 Rand Safety and Justice (Program),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2007130040|eresearcher. 710 2 National Institute of Justice (U.S.),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n81120466|esponsoring body. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHunt, Priscilla.|tEvaluation of the Shreveport predictive policing experiment.|dSanta Monica, CA : RAND Corporation, [2014]|z9780833086914 |w(OCoLC)882601950 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/j.ctt14bs27t |zOnline eBook.
