While tapu had been extensively discussed in the scientific literature on Oceanian anthropology, the rahui is quite absent from secondary modern literature. This situation is all the more problematic because individual actors, societies, and states in the Pacific are readapting such concepts to their current needs, such as environment regulation or cultural legitimacy. This book assembles a comprehensive collection of current works on the rahui from a legal pluralism perspective. This study as a whole underlines the new assertion of identity that has flowed from the cultural dimension of the rahui. Today, rahui have become a means for indigenous communities to be fully recognised on a political level. Some indigenous communities choose to restore the rahui in order to preserve political control of their territory or, in some cases, to get it back. For the state, better control of the rahui represents a way of asserting its legitimacy and its sovereignty, in the face of this reassertion by indigenous communities. 546 English. 588 Title from Directory of Open Access Books; viewed on 2020- 08-13. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Legal polycentricity|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh98004273|zPolynesia.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85104688-781 650 0 Customary law|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85034953|zPolynesia.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85104688-781 650 0 Traditional ecological knowledge|xLaw and legislation |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2005008370 |zPolynesia.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85104688-781 650 7 Legal polycentricity.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 995519 650 7 Customary law.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/885510 650 7 Traditional ecological knowledge|xLaw and legislation. |2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1765840 651 7 Polynesia.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1245821 653 cultural identity. 653 resource management. 653 eastern polynesia. 653 rahui. 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Electronic books.|2lcgft 700 1 Bambridge, Tamatoa,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2003062307|eeditor. 773 0 |tOAPEN (Open Access Publishing in European Networks). |dOAPEN 773 0 |tBooks at JSTOR: Open Access.|dJSTOR 776 08 |iPrint version: The Rahui|dActon, A.C.T. : ANU Press, [2016]|z9781925022797|w(OCoLC)931672261 830 0 Pacific series.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2018172245 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt1bw1hdq |zOnline ebook.
