In this book, Trey Palmisano examines the theological connection between peace and violence across a range of Bonhoeffer's writings, sermons, and letters. Despite the challenges Bonhoeffer experienced in his personal life and in the life of his country, Palmisano asserts that a strong consistency emerges in Bonhoeffer's approach to ethics that resonates in the positing of Christ as the center of all ethical discourse and orients one to the ever-present challenges of a changing world. Palmisano creates distance from former studies that sought to define Bonhoeffer as a committed pacifist, a situational pacifist, or one who compromised his values to accommodate an exception for violence. By prioritizing methodology as the key to interpreting Bonhoeffer's thought, Palmisano argues that the ethical dilemma thought to be caused by Bonhoeffer's actions is avoided. The result is one that creates an authentic ethical openness by responsiveness to Christ rather than Christian virtue, and frees the individual from redundancies of action derived from deeply embedded patterns of theological engagement. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Bonhoeffer, Dietrich,|d1906-1945.|tEthik.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n86012685 630 07 Ethik (Bonhoeffer, Dietrich)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1371956 650 0 Christian ethics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85025083|xBekennende Kirche authors. 650 0 Peace|xMoral and ethical aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010105313 650 0 Violence|xMoral and ethical aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh90003010 650 7 Christian ethics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 859107 650 7 Peace|xMoral and ethical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1055780 650 7 Violence|xMoral and ethical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1167234 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Krauss, Reinhard,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n81019112|ewriter of foreword. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPalmisano, Trey.|tPeace and violence in the ethics of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.|dEugene, OR : Wipf & Stock, 2016|z1620326531|w(OCoLC)936192287 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1242077|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
