The book discusses this issue by investigating compounds and phrases from a structural, semantic-functional and, crucially, cognitive perspective. The analysis focuses on compounds and phrases that are composed of either an adjective and a noun or two nouns in German, French and English. Having distinguished compounds from phrases on structural and semantic-functional grounds, the author claims that compounds are by their nature more appropriate to be stored in the mental lexicon than phrases and supports his argument with empirical evidence from new psycholinguistic studies. In sum, the book maintains the separation between compounds and phrases and reflects upon its cognitive consequences. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Memory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85083497 |xPsychological aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002011485 650 0 Psycholinguistics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85108432 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|xSyntax.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85056338 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85056260|xAnalysis.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006221 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|xMorphology.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85056306 650 0 German language|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85054365|xGrammar, Comparative.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005980 650 0 French language|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85051829|xGrammar, Comparative.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005980 650 0 English language|xGrammar, Comparative.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85043568 650 0 Semantic memory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2011000842 650 7 Memory|xPsychological aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1015931 650 7 Memory.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1015913 650 7 Psycholinguistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1081323 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general|xSyntax.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/946258 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/946126 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general|xMorphology.|2fast|0https ://id.worldcat.org/fast/946202 650 7 German language|xGrammar, Comparative.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/941533 650 7 German language.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 941408 650 7 French language|xGrammar, Comparative.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/934458 650 7 French language.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 934333 650 7 English language|xGrammar, Comparative.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/911233 650 7 Semantic memory.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1764751 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aSchlechtweg, Marcel.|tMemorization and the Compound-Phrase Distinction : An Investigation of Complex Constructions in German, French and English. |dBerlin/Boston : De Gruyter, ©2018|z9783110568622 830 0 Studia grammatica.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n84746634 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1691656|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
