When Linna, 12, moves from Germany with her mother and brother to Canada where her father has been working, she fears that she will be forced to give up her dream of becoming an opera singer. In her new home, she lives in a sod house and struggles to learn the language. Her relationship with her father is strained as she cannot seem to forgive him for pulling her away from her comfortable old life.
