Summary Program # 828: Title: Journey Into Islam. When one Professor and four American students set off on a journey through nine Islamic countries the results are catalytic. Through encounters with representatives of Islam's three major stands - Traditionalist, mystical and modernizing - the group gains a keen understanding of the currents swirling through the Islamic world today. Surprising findings include the disarray of the modernists and the interest some fundamentalists take in East-West dialogue. Author Akbar Ahmed explains.
Program #751: Title: The Refugees Within. "The problem of traditional refugees are well known to a world that seems perpetually at war. But a new class of refugee - the internally displaced person - requires new attention and policies. There are people driven from their homes but still residents in their countries. Donald Steinberg discusses their plight.
Commentary #284: Title: The Merida Initiative and Beyond. "When it comes to shared challenges Mexico and the United States face, one-sided efforts are not enough. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton discusses the Merida Initiative and the future of the U.S.-Mexican relations. Sean R. Singer Special Assistant to the President."--Track sheet.
Commentary #285: Title: Why politics is so partisan. "Americans tend, on the whole, to favor moderation and pragmatism in politics. Their leaders, on the other hand, are more divided than ever. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton explains 'Why Politics Is So Partisan.'"--Track sheet.
