From a historical perspective, it examines a forerunner of Spinoza's departure from the Absolute in the Ethics: the doctrine of God as a first object in the generation of knowledge, as formulated by Henry of Ghent (died 1293) and Richard Covington (died 1330). Methodologically, it offers a case-study in the construction of an historical object, calling into question the self-evident and spontaneous way in which elements in the history of philosophy - its concepts and theories - are presented as primary givens. In a systematic sense, this study includes a reflection on structural indeterminacy, as pervading and stabilizing the differential system of exclusions which makes up the doctrine of God as a first object in the generation of knowledge."--Jacket. 546 Text in German; appendices and some notes in Latin; summary in English. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 To 1500|2fast 650 0 Knowledge, Theory of|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008106320|yTo 1500.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002012483 650 0 Absolute, The|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85000239|xHistory|yTo 1500.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006121 650 0 God|xHistory of doctrines.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85055525 650 0 Philosophy, Medieval.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85100956 650 04 God. 650 04 Metafysica. 650 7 Knowledge, Theory of.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 988194 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Absolute, The.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/794721 650 7 God|xHistory of doctrines.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/944056 650 7 Philosophy, Medieval.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1061057 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aGoris, Wouter.|tAbsolute beginners. |dLeiden ; Boston : Brill, 2007|w(DLC) 2007034513 |w(OCoLC)166382499 830 0 Studien und Texte zur Geistesgeschichte des Mittelalters ; |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n42023682|vBd. 93. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=252862|zOnline eBook.
