London: Methuen, 1998. 500 Translated from the German. 520 8 Based on Christopher Marlowe's classic play, The Life of Edward II of England dramatizes the life of the king who was deposed and eventually murdered by his wife and her lover. Edward's treatment of his favourite courtier, Gaveston, causes discontent among the English nobles, and provokes the Queen's jealousy. She and her lover, Mortimer, raise an army, intending to put her son on the throne. Although Brecht used Marlowe's play as a source, he envisioned Edward II as a challenge to German Shakespearean traditions, which he considered stodgy and middle-class. It premiered in Munich in 1924. 532 8 Compatible with accessibility standards for most Level A (Priority 1) and AA (Priority 2) success criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) developed by the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C). 588 Description based on online resource; title from home page (viewed on August 4, 2014). 590 Bloomsbury Drama Online - Core Collection 600 00 Edward|bII,|cKing of England,|d1284-1327|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50035066|vDrama.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001612 600 07 Edward|bII,|cKing of England,|d1284-1327.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/11898 648 7 14th century|2fast 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 651 0 Great Britain|xHistory|y14th century|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85056757|vDrama.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001612 651 7 Great Britain.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 655 7 Drama.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423879 655 7 Drama.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/ gf2014026297 700 1 Benedetti, Jean,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n82153796|etranslator. 700 1 Brecht, Bertolt,|d1898-1956.|tCollected plays one. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://doi.org/ 10.5040/9781408161388.00000055?locatt=label: secondary_dramaOnline|zOnline eBook via Drama Online.
