Bibliography Includes bibliographical references.
Summary 'King Richard III' is the final play of Shakespeare's first tetralogy, the culmination of the War of the Roses and the inception of the Tudor dynasty. The play picks up where 'Henry VI Part 3' left off, with the Lancastrian king dead and the house of York in the ascendant. The play first appears in the 1597 first Quarto (Q1). By the 1623 First Folio (F), the play is catalogued in the Histories section. F is significantly longer than Q1, with manifold textual differences; this edition incorporates both, generally deferring to F.
