The impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on Gulf communities and ecosystems - coupled with the region's preexisting health challenges and environmental stressors - illustrate the need to better understand these connections. In the future, natural and man-made disasters, climate change impacts, and other environmental stressors will present complex challenges to the physical, mental, and social well-being of communities in the Gulf. Understanding the interrelationships among health, ecological, and economic impacts of disasters and other environmental stressors will be crucial to addressing these challenges. Opportunities for the Gulf Research Program: Community Resilience and Health summarizes a Gulf Research Program workshop held on September 22-23, 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The workshop examined opportunities to improve the health, well-being, and resilience of communities in the Gulf region through discussions with about 50 participants with diverse expertise and experience. These discussions identified perceived needs, challenges, and opportunities that align with the Gulf Research Program's mission and goals - particularly its goal to improve understanding of the connections between human health and the environment to support the development of health and resilient Gulf communities. This workshop is expected to lead to the development of additional Program activities and opportunities for the research community. 588 0 Version viewed June 21, 2015. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Human ecology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85062856|zMexico, Gulf of.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85084621-781 650 0 Human ecology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85062856|zGulf Coast (U.S.)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85057884-781 650 7 Human ecology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/962941 650 12 Petroleum Pollution|xadverse effects.|0https:// id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D059392Q000009 651 2 Gulf of Mexico.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D060851 651 2 Southeastern United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/ D015144 650 22 Ecosystem.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D017753 650 22 Public Health.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D011634 650 22 Resilience, Psychological.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/ D055500 655 2 Congress.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D016423 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 700 1 Olson, Steve,|d1956-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n85025654|erapporteur. 710 2 Gulf Research Program,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2015059061|eissuing body,|esponsoring body. 710 2 National Academy of Engineering,|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79110490|eissuing body. 710 2 Institute of Medicine (U.S.),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79129181|eissuing body. 710 2 National Academy of Sciences (U.S.),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79056514|eissuing body. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.),|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79036113|eissuing body. 711 2 Community Resilience and Health Opportunity Analysis Workshop|d(2014 :|cNew Orleans, La.)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2015185714 776 08 |iPrint version:|tOpportunities for the gulf research program : community resilience and health : summary of a workshop.|dWashington, District of Columbia : The National Academies Press, ©2015|hxiii, 75 pages|z9780309368520 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=970271|zOnline eBook.
