Despite the size and diversity of the movement, however, it remains understudied. Fight and Flight examines the campaigns of three US NGOs, namely Amnesty International USA, the National Lawyers Guild, and the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador. By analyzing the ways in which the NGOs ameliorated the effects of human rights violations in Central America, primarily through their refugee assistance programs, this research demonstrates that the movement was more effective than is generally reflected in the existing literature. Of particular interest for academic students of human rights and social movements, as well as activists interested in strategies of social change, this book offers a nuanced reading of a critical movement for human rights and international justice.--Publisher's description 588 0 Print record version. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 Amnesty International USA.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n81089806 610 20 Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (U.S.)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84147301 610 20 National Lawyers Guild.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79054671 610 27 Amnesty International USA.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/559203 610 27 Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (U.S.)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/594310 610 27 National Lawyers Guild.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/532777 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1979-1992|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Human rights advocacy|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94008953|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Human rights advocacy|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94008953|zCentral America.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85021871-781 650 0 Human rights|zEl Salvador|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2008105896|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Military assistance, American|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85085145|zEl Salvador|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79066409-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006165 650 0 Non-governmental organizations|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh86007360|zEl Salvador.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79066409-781 650 7 Human rights advocacy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /963343 650 7 Human rights.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/963285 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Military assistance, American.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1020932 650 7 Non-governmental organizations.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1038524 650 7 Politics and government.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1919741 650 7 Human rights.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000652 651 0 El Salvador|xPolitics and government|y1979-1992.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85041480 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 651 7 Central America.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1244535 651 7 El Salvador.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1205530 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aBassano, David.|tFight and flight. |dNewcastle upon Tyne, UK : Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2016|z9781443891172|w(DLC) 2016438533|w(OCoLC)950476511 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1258163|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
