The first workshop, Measuring Food Insecurity and Assessing the Sustainability of Global Food Systems, explored the availability and quality of commonly used indicators for food security and malnutrition; poverty; and natural resources and agricultural productivity. It was organized around the three broad dimensions of sustainable food security: (1) availability, (2) access, and (3) utilization. The workshop reviewed the existing data to encourage action and identify knowledge gaps. The second workshop, Exploring Sustainable Solutions for Increasing Global Food Supplies, focused specifically on assuring the availability of adequate food supplies. How can food production be increased to meet the needs of a population expected to reach over 9 billion by 2050? Workshop objectives included identifying the major challenges and opportunities associated with achieving sustainable food security and identifying needed policy, science, and governance interventions. Workshop participants discussed long term natural resource constraints, specifically water, land and forests, soils, biodiversity and fisheries. They also examined the role of knowledge, technology, modern production practices, and infrastructure in supporting expanded agricultural production and the significant risks to future productivity posed by climate change. This is a report of two workshops.'--Publisher's description. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Food supply|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85050339|xStatistics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2003003690|xResearch.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006576 650 0 Food supply|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85050339|xGlobalization|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2007000663|xResearch.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006576 650 0 Food security|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2009007706|xGlobalization|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007000663|xResearch.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006576 650 0 Hunger|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85063084 |xNutrition|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99005694|xResearch.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002006576 650 0 Sustainable agriculture|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh87004216|xGlobalization.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007000663 650 0 Food industry and trade|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85050282|xGlobalization.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007000663 650 7 Food supply|xStatistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/931232 650 7 Research.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1095153 650 7 Food supply.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/931196 650 7 Globalization.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/943532 650 7 Food security.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1748879 650 7 Hunger.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/964089 650 7 Nutrition.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1042187 650 7 Sustainable agriculture.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1139712 650 7 Food industry and trade.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/930843 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNational Research Council (U.S.).
