He studied and practiced medicine, but his interests were in politics and the support of the nationalist struggle, and in writing- and his writing, whether in his regular newspaper columns or in his fiction, often reflected his political convictions. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize for literature more than once, and when the prize went to Naguib Mahfouz in 1988, Idris felt that he had been passed over because of his outspoken views on Israel. In all, Yusuf Idris wrote some twelve collections of superbly crafted short stories, mainly about ordinary, poor people, many of which have been translated into English and are included in this collection, along with an extract from one of his novels, in this collection of the best of his work." -- Book jacket. 600 10 Idrīs, Yūsuf|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n80136333|vTranslations into English.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001577 600 17 Idrīs, Yūsuf.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/62596 650 0 Short stories, Arabic|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh90000070|vTranslations into English.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001577 650 0 Short stories, Egyptian|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00001748|vTranslations into English.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001577 650 7 Short stories, Arabic.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1117086 650 7 Short stories, Egyptian.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1117173 655 7 Short stories, Arabic.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1750176 655 7 Short stories.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026542 655 7 Short stories.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1726740 700 1 Johnson-Davies, Denys.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n82020409 901 MARCIVE 20231220 935 506454 948 |d20181012|cLTI|tlti-aup183 948 |d20171012|cLTI|tlti-aup173 948 |d20161019|clti|tlti-aup163 948 |d20110208|cMH|tcheck|lridm|v1 994 C0|bRID
