It examines the sources, dynamics, and consequences of Russia's increasing use of and reliance on information and communications technologies (IT) to improve the performance of its government institutions, to modernize business and industry and stimulate economic growth, to broaden information access and sharing of ideas, and to enhance quality of life for Russian people. The findings reported here are drawn from a RAND Corporation research project conducted in Russia from 1999 to 2005, which included interviews with more than 90 individuals who are knowledgeable about IT trends. The author examines Russia's emerging IT sector, how business and industry in Russia are seeking to use IT to enhance productivity and profitability, the impact of IT on government operations, and the course of the Information Revolution in Russian society. A conclusion that emerges is that while the Internet, cell phones, and e-mail have greatly impacted the lives of many Russians, an Information Revolution in Russia's government, economy, and society-such as many of its supporters have anticipated and hoped for-remains in the future. 546 English. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Information society|zRussia (Federation)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008123680 650 0 Information technology|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2009127186|zRussia (Federation) |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n92056007-781 650 0 Information technology|xEconomic aspects|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008123436|zRussia (Federation)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n92056007-781 650 0 Information technology|xPolitical aspects|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009127206|zRussia (Federation)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n92056007-781 650 7 Information society.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 972767 650 7 Information technology|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/973131 650 7 Information technology|xEconomic aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/973097 650 7 Information technology|xPolitical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/973119 651 7 Russia (Federation)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1262050 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Electronic books.|2gtlm 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPeterson, D.J.|tRussia and the information revolution.|z0833038583|w(DLC) 2005026168 |w(OCoLC)61513036 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/mg422cc|zOnline ebook.
