Olfat Mahmoud is a Palestinian refugee - a descendant of the Christian and Muslim people who fled Palestine in the period leading up to and after the founding of the state of Israel in 1948. She is an accomplished woman in her own right: the director of an international NGO, an internationally recognised peace activist, a registered nurse and, most recently, the recipient of a doctorate. Born in a refugee camp in Lebanon more than 60 years ago, Olfat's determination to help her people in their fight to return to their homeland led to a nursing career that has placed her at the front line of atrocious massacres and wars in the Middle East. Tears for Tarshiha follows Olfat's career amid the death and destruction of Lebanon's many conflicts, and chronicles the Palestinian people's remarkable capacity for love and bravery in the most extreme conditions. Olfat's extraordinary story is emblematic of the Palestinian plight, illustrating their continued survival and determination that has become an inconvenience to the international community. These are the descendants of those Palestinians who were forced from their homeland at gunpoint by the Israeli military in 1948 in what is known as the Nakba - or Catastrophe. In 1949, David Ben-Gurion, one of the founders and the first prime minister of Israel, stated that 'we must do everything to ensure [the Palestinians] never do return...the old will die and the young will forget'. Despite Olfat's parents and grandparents never seeing Tarshiha again, this book is part of Olfat's ongoing campaign to keep her people's predicament in the public consciousness. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Mahmoud, Olfat,|d1960-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2019054413 647 7 Israel-Arab War|d(1948-1949)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/980263 648 7 1948-1949|2fast 650 0 Israel-Arab War, 1948-1949|xRefugees.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009127660 650 0 Political refugees|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85112309|zPalestine|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85097163-781|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Refugees, Palestinian Arab|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh2001002300|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Internally displaced persons|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2005008481|zPalestine|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85097163-781|vBiography. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Refugee camps|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh87007802|zIsrael|zTarshīḥā.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2006088623-781 650 0 Nurses|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85093349 |zIsrael|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79003285- 781|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99001237 650 0 Israel-Arab War, 1948-1949|xRefugees|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009127660|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 7 Refugees.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1092797 650 7 Political refugees.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1069678 650 7 Refugees, Palestinian Arab.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1092883 650 7 Internally displaced persons.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1739001 650 7 Refugee camps.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1092775 650 7 Nurses.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1041618 651 0 Tarshīḥā (Israel)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2006088623|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 651 7 Israel.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204236 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Autobiographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026047 655 7 Autobiographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919894 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Cooper, Dani,|eauthor. 700 1 McCue, Helen,|d1949-|eauthor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMahmoud, Olfat, 1960-|tTears for Tarshiha.|dMelbourne, Victoria Wild Dingo Press, 2018 |w(OCoLC)1041111794 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2087593|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
