Ordinary violence in Mussolini's Italy analyses this system of political confinement and, more broadly, its effects on Italian society, revealing the centrality of political violence to Fascist rule. In doing so, the book shatters the widely accepted view that the Mussolini regime ruled without a system of mass repression. The Fascist state ruled Italy violently, projecting its coercive power deeply and diffusely into society through confinement, imprisonment, low-level physical assaults, economic deprivations, intimidation, discrimination, and other quotidian forms of coercion. Moreover, by promoting denunciatory practices, the regime cemented the loyalties of "upstanding" citizens while suppressing opponents, dissenters, and social outsiders. Fascist repression was thus more intense and ideological than previously thought and even shared some important similarities with Nazi and Soviet terror"--Provided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Mussolini, Benito,|d1883-1945.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095482 600 17 Mussolini, Benito,|d1883-1945.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/29092 648 7 1922-1945|2fast 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1918-1945|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Fascism|zItaly|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2008103589 650 0 Political violence|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh95005727|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79021783-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Political persecution|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85104376|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79021783-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Deportation|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85037040|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79021783-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Imprisonment|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85064675|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79021783-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 State-sponsored terrorism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh91004326|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79021783-781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 7 Politics and government.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1919741 650 7 Fascism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/921551 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Political violence.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1069902 650 7 Political persecution.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1069448 650 7 Deportation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/890840 650 7 Imprisonment.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/968277 650 7 State-sponsored terrorism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1131965 650 7 Social conditions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919811 651 0 Italy|xPolitics and government|y1922-1945.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85069013 651 0 Italy|xSocial conditions|y1918-1945.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85069023 651 7 Italy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204565 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aEbner, Michael R., 1972-|tOrdinary violence in Mussolini's Italy.|dNew York : Cambridge University Press, 2011|z9780521762137|w(DLC) 2010019594 |w(OCoLC)624036922 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=400537|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
