While other biblical writings explicitly depict the destruction of Jerusalem and the inhabitants' deportation to Babylon in the early sixth century BCE, Isaiah is apparently silent. At the center of the book where readers would expect to find an account of these traumatic and defining events, there is just a strange gap. The author argues that the curious break between chapters 39 and 40 indicates an anti-climax - a destroyed and forsaken Jerusalem - and that several passages stress its importance by either pointing forward to it or looking back at it. Frederik Poulsen demonstrates that the exile in Isaiah hides itself as a "black hole" at the center of the book and thereby has a decisive influence on the literary structure, poetic imagery, and theological message of this prophetic scroll. 588 Description based on print version record 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 630 00 Bible.|pIsaiah|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n80002952|xCriticism, Narrative.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005442 630 00 Bible.|pIsaiah|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n80002952|xCriticism, interpretation, etc.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004866 630 7 Bible.|pIsaiah.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1808068 630 07 Bible.|pIsaiah.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1808068 647 7 Jews in Babylonian captivity|d(598 - 515 B.C.)|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1907040 648 7 598-515 B.C.|2fast 650 0 Jews|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85070393|yBabylonian captivity, 598 B.C.-515 B.C. 650 7 Jews.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/983135 655 2 Academic Dissertation.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/ D019478 655 7 Academic theses.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1726453 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Academic theses.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026039 710 2 ProQuest (Firm)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2007068018 776 08 |iPrint version:|z3161568621|z9783161568626|w(DLC) 2018373617 830 0 Forschungen zum Alten Testament ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n92032231|v125. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2341842|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
