He ably served the Rockefeller Foundation and when Julius Rosenwald created a foundation for his philanthropic activity, he called on Embree to be its head. The Rosenwald Fund is best known for constructing more than 5, 300 schools for rural black communities in the South. In the 1940s, Embree became more personally engaged with race relations in the U.S. He chaired Chicago's Commission on Race Relations, helped create Roosevelt College, and was co-founder of the American Council on Race Relations. Late in life, Embree was president of the Liberian Foundation, devoted to improving health and education in Africa's oldest republic. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Embree, Edwin R.|q(Edwin Rogers),|d1883-1950.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n89647942 600 10 Embree, Edwin R.|q(Edwin Rogers),|d1883-1950|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n89647942|xPolitical and social views.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002011435 600 14 Embree, Edwin R.,|d1883-1950|q(Embree, Edwin Rogers) |xPolitical and social views. 600 17 Embree, Edwin R.|q(Edwin Rogers),|d1883-1950.|2fast|0https ://id.worldcat.org/fast/256255 610 20 Rockefeller Foundation|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n78084859|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001237 610 20 Julius Rosenwald Fund|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n86025584|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001237 610 24 Rockefeller Foundation|vBiography. 610 24 Julius Rosenwald Fund|vBiography. 610 27 Rockefeller Foundation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/528303 610 27 Julius Rosenwald Fund.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /622638 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 To 1964|2fast 648 7 To 1999|2fast 650 0 Philanthropists|zUnited States|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008109186 650 0 Endowments|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2008102775|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 African Americans|xSocial conditions|yTo 1964.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85001984 650 7 Political and social views.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1353986 650 7 Philanthropists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1060593 650 7 Endowments.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/909854 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 African Americans|xSocial conditions.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/799698 650 7 Race relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1086509 651 0 Chicago (Ill.)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78086438|xRace relations|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00007552|xHistory|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 651 0 United States|xRace relations|xHistory|y20th century. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2007100028 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPerkins, Alfred, 1936-|tEdwin Rogers Embree.|dBloomington : Indiana University Press, ©2011 |z9780253356048|w(DLC) 2010036733|w(OCoLC)641506669 830 0 Philanthropic and nonprofit studies.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2002016536 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=381963|zOnline eBook.
