Tracing recurrent linguistic patterns allows Senn to demonstrate that Conrad's view of the radical indeterminacy of the world is conveyed on the most basic levels of the author's (often criticised) verbal style but permeates his work at all levels of the narrative. Detailed stylistic analysis also reveals the importance, to Conrad, of the spoken word, of oral communication. Senn argues that the narrators' compulsive efforts to make their readers see and understand reflect Conrad's ethics of human solidarity in a world he depicts as hostile, enigmatic and often senseless. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Conrad, Joseph,|d1857-1924|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79054067|xLiterary style.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001009058 600 10 Conrad, Joseph,|d1857-1924|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79054067|xCriticism and interpretation.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005576 600 17 Conrad, Joseph,|d1857-1924.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/35252 650 7 Literary style.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1136323 650 7 Criticism and interpretation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1198648 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 776 08 |iPrint version:|z9004339825|z9789004339828 |w(OCoLC)962794386 830 0 Conrad studies ;|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2008031032|v10.|x1872-1737 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1939565|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
