Following the lead of European states and Japan at the turn of the twentieth century, cities around China began to register, tax, monitor, and sometimes give venereal disease inspections to prostitutes. This book examines how the means that local government chose to shape this institution so integral to, and constitutive of, the system of gender relations ended up transforming local states themselves. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900 - 1999|2fast 650 0 Prostitution|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85107626|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zChina|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/names/n79091151-781|xHistory|y20th century. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 0 Sex role|zChina|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2010112789|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002012476 650 0 Local government|zChina|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010100018|y20th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002012476 650 7 Prostitution|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1079567 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Prostitution.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1079562 650 7 Sex role.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1114598 650 7 Local government.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1001300 650 7 Female prostitution.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000434 650 7 Prostitution.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0001136 650 7 Gender roles.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000577 651 7 China.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1206073 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aRemick, Elizabeth J., 1966-|tRegulating prostitution in China.|dStanford, California : Stanford University Press, [2014]|z9780804788366|w(DLC) 2013047795 |w(OCoLC)864676797 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=713512|zOnline eBook.
