It surveys biblical pseudepigraphic literary activity in the late antique Near East, devoting special attention to revelatory works attributed to the five biblical forefathers who are cited in the Cologne Mani Codex : Adam, Seth, Enosh, Shem, and Enoch. The author provides a philological, literary, and religio-historical analysis of each of the five pseudepigraphic citations contained in the Codex , and offers hypotheses regarding the original provenance of each citation and the means by which these traditions have been adapted to their present context. This study is an important contribution to the scholarly reassessment of the roles played by Second Temple Judaism, Jewish Christian sectarianism, and classical gnosis in the formulation and development of Syro-Mesopotamian religious currents. 546 Text in Greek and English. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 630 00 Cologne Mani codex.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79067020 630 7 Cologne Mani codex.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1373915 630 07 Cologne Mani codex.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1373915 650 0 Manichaeism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85080542|zIraq.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79077342-781 650 0 Manichaeism|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85080542|zSyria.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n80061798-781 650 0 Apocryphal books (Old Testament)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85006008 650 0 Patriarchs (Bible)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85098722 650 7 Manichaeism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1007716 650 7 Apocryphal books (Old Testament)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/811414 650 7 Patriarchs (Bible)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1055070 650 7 Religion.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1093763 651 0 Syria|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80061798 |xReligion.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002007663 651 0 Iraq|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79077342 |xReligion.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002007663 651 7 Iraq.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1205757 651 7 Syria.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1208757 776 08 |cOriginal|z9004104593|z9789004104594|w(DLC) 96017953 |w(OCoLC)35174715 830 0 Nag Hammadi and Manichaean studies ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n93049811|v41.|x0929-2470 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2661785|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
