The emergence of a realist style in Maritime fiction corresponded with a dramatic period of economic and cultural disruption during which the Maritime provinces were transformed from one of Canada's most developed, prosperous, and promising regions into one characterized by chronic underemployment and underdevelopment. The Maritime region is thus torn between its memory of an earlier, more prosperous and traditional social order and its present experience as a less fortunate modern industrial society. These tensions are embedded in the Maritime character and have affected not only the lives of its people but the imaginations and texts of its writers."--Jacket. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900 - 1999|2fast 650 0 Canadian fiction|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85019380|zMaritime Provinces|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85081318-781|xHistory and criticism.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99001187 650 0 Authors, Canadian|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85009834|xHomes and haunts|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005711|zMaritime Provinces. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85081318-781 650 0 Canadian fiction|y20th century|xHistory and criticism. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008100039 650 0 Realism in literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85111770 650 5 Canadian fiction (English)|zMaritime Provinces|xHistory and criticism. 650 5 Canadian fiction (English)|y20th century|xHistory and criticism. 650 7 Canadian fiction.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 845101 650 7 Authors, Canadian|xHomes and haunts.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/821872 650 7 Authors, Canadian.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 821870 650 7 Realism in literature.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1091237 650 7 Intellectual life.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 975769 651 0 Maritime Provinces|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85081318|xIntellectual life.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005642 651 0 Maritime Provinces|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85081318|xIn literature.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002011414 651 7 Maritime Provinces.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1243014 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 776 08 |iPrint version:|aCreelman, David Craig, 1962-|tSetting in the east.|dMontreal ; Ithaca : McGill-Queen's University Press, ©2003|w(DLC) 2004381584 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=404938|zOnline eBook.
