The media sources examined are all considered influential with respect to the shaping of elite views, either directly on political leaders or indirectly through their influence on public opinion. The volume provides a review of the arguments concerning appropriate international responses to events in Syria and how they were framed in leading newspapers in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada during the crucial early years of the conflict; considers how such media counsel affected the domestic contexts in which American and British decisions were made not to launch forceful interventions following Assad's use of sarin gas in 2013; and offers reasoned speculation on the relevance of R2P in future humanitarian crises in light of the failure to protect Syrian civilians. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 647 7 Syrian Civil War|c(Syria :|d2011-)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1907471 648 7 2011|2fast 650 0 Press|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85106500 |xMoral and ethical aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00006099|zSyria.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80061798-781 650 0 Journalistic ethics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85070787 650 0 Journalism|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85070745|zSyria.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80061798-781 650 0 Mass media|xMoral and ethical aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85081869|zSyria.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80061798-781 650 0 Frames (Sociology)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2012003306 650 7 Press.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1075837 650 7 Journalistic ethics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 984185 650 7 Journalism|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/984087 650 7 Mass media|xMoral and ethical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1011269 650 7 Frames (Sociology)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1893827 651 0 Syria|xHistory|yCivil War, 2011-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2012001320|xPress coverage.|0https: //id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99002408 651 0 Syria|xHistory|yCivil War, 2011-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2012001320|xMass media and the war. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006400 651 0 Syria|xHistory|yCivil War, 2011-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2012001320|xForeign public opinion. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00005785 651 7 Syria.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1208757 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Soderlund, Walter C.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n78075986|eauthor. 700 1 Najem, Tom,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no98128844|eauthor. 776 1 Briggs, E.
