Ecological changes made these landscapes especially suitable for the vector mosquitoes of yellow fever and malaria, and these diseases wrought systematic havoc among armies and would-be settlers. Because yellow fever confers immunity on survivors of the disease, and because malaria confers resistance, these diseases played partisan roles in the struggles for empire and revolution, attacking some populations more severely than others. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Human ecology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85062856|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Nature|xEffect of human beings on|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85080299|zCaribbean Area|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Revolutions|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85113507|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Yellow fever|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85149092|xEnvironmental aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005383|zCaribbean Area|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Malaria|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85080038|xEnvironmental aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005383|zCaribbean Area|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Epidemics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85044370|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Medical geography|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85082940|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Malaria|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85080038|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Yellow fever|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85149092|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Mosquitoes|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85087477|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xpathogenicity. 650 0 Social change|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85123918|zCaribbean Area|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85020279-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Human ecology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/962941 650 7 Nature|xEffect of human beings on.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1034564 650 7 Revolutions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1096737 650 7 Yellow fever.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1182653 650 7 Malaria|xEnvironmental aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1006349 650 7 Malaria.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1006343 650 7 Epidemics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/914079 650 7 Medical geography.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1014152 650 7 Mosquitoes.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1026772 650 7 Social change.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1122310 651 0 Caribbean Area|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh88001300 651 2 Caribbean Region.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D017691 651 7 Caribbean Area.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1244080 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Electronic books.|2lcgft 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMcNeill, John Robert.|tMosquito empires. |dNew York : Cambridge University Press, 2010 |z9780521452861|w(DLC) 2009037299|w(OCoLC)436358468 830 0 New approaches to the Americas.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n97058341 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=313287|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
