This account of life in one highland Maya community shows how, among Kaqchikels, spirit expresses itself fundamentally through the body, and not as something entirely separate from the body. By examining the lived-meanings of midwifery, soul therapy, and community dance in the town of San Juan Comalapa, the book identifies the body as the primary vehicle for spiritual grounding in daily life. Hinojosa invites readers to understand how specialists in these activities articulate their knowledge of the spirit through their understanding of blood, and he encourages readers to glimpse the hidden life of the body and how bodily processes guide local understandings of spirit at the personal and group level. This work further illuminates the agentive role of the body in Maya spiritual experience and enriches the current discussions of Maya spiritual revitalization"--|cProvided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Cakchikel Indians|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85018725|zGuatemala|zComalapa|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781|xSocial life and customs. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001008851 650 0 Cakchikel Indians|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85018725|zGuatemala|zComalapa|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781|xReligion.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002007663 650 0 Human body|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh85015232|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 0 Human body|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85015222|zGuatemala|zComalapa|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781|xReligious aspects. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006568 650 0 Mind and body|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85085488|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 0 Midwifery|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh96006072|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 0 Mental healing|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85083614|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 0 Indian dance|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh94002323|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 0 Community life|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85029243|zGuatemala|zComalapa.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nr92039496-781 650 7 Cakchikel Indians.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 843950 650 7 Manners and customs.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1007815 650 7 Religion.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1093763 650 7 Human body|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1730101 650 7 Human body.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1730057 650 7 Mind and body.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1021997 650 7 Midwifery.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1020613 650 7 Mental healing.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1016334 650 7 Indian dance.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/969101 650 7 Community life.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/871028 651 0 Comalapa (Guatemala)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /nr92039496|xSocial life and customs.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001008851 651 2 Guatemala.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006166 651 7 Guatemala|zComalapa.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1263489 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHinojosa, Servando Z., 1968-|tIn this body|z9780826335234|w(DLC) 2015002177|w(OCoLC)907885311 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=982494|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
