Leading us chronologically through the settlement of the state, Marshall considers the place of homemade music in people's lives across social and ethnic communities from the late 1700s to the World War I years and into the early 1920s. Through the settlement of the state of Missouri, Marshall investigates how these communities established our cultural heritage, the "Old Stock Americans," (primarily Scotch-Irish from Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia) ; African Americans, German-speaking immigrants, people with American Indian ancestry (focusing on Cherokee families dating from the Trail of Tears in the 1830s), and Irish railroad workers in the post-Civil War period. These are the primary communities whose fiddle and dance traditions came together on the Missouri frontier to cultivate the bounty of old-time fiddling enjoyed today. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Folk music|zMissouri|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2009124249|xHistory and criticism.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001187 650 0 Fiddlers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85048077|zMissouri.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79029210-781 650 0 Fiddle tunes|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85048074|xHistory and criticism.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001187 650 0 Fiddle tunes|zMissouri|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2009124250|xHistory and criticism.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001187 650 0 Old-time music|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2001002368|xHistory and criticism.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001187 650 0 Fiddle tunes.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85048074 650 7 Folk music.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/929383 650 7 Fiddlers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/923794 650 7 Fiddle tunes.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/923786 650 7 Old-time music.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1045395 651 7 Missouri.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204724 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Fiddle tunes.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1726612 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 776 08 |iPrint version:|z9780826219947|z0826219942 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=525747|zOnline eBook.
