"This study intends to find out how the New Jersey Abbott laws have impacted New Jersey public school choral programs affected by the Abbott v. Burke decisions. To do this, the researcher will conduct a case study of three Abbott districts' music programs....The intention of this research is to find out whether or not the inclusion of the arts in standards based education improves the situation, or if more needs to be done to ensure every child has an arts program in their school. The researcher chose to examine Abbott v. Burke because it is the first fully executed example of government mandated accountability that includes the arts and considers them a necessary part of the curriculum. However, it was discovered that even though there are standards for the arts, they are not enforced and therefore have not impacted the arts in the state of New Jersey"--P. iv. |
