These are the Survey of Federal Funds for Research and Development and the Survey of Federal Science and Engineering Support to Universities, Colleges, and Nonprofit Institutions. These surveys help reach conclusions about fundamental policy questions, such as whether a given field of research is adequately funded, whether funding is balanced among fields, and whether deficiencies in funding may be contributing to a loss of U.S. scientific or economic competitiveness. However, the survey data are of insufficient quality and timeliness to support many of the demands put on them. In addition the surveys are increasingly difficult to conduct in times of constrained resources, and their technological, procedural, and conceptual infrastructure has not been modernized for procedure or content. Data on Federal Research and Development Investments reviews the uses and collection of data on federal funds and federal support for science and technology and recommends future directions for the program based on an assessment of these uses and the adequacy of the surveys. The book also considers the classification structure, or taxonomy, for the fields of science and engineering."--Publisher's description. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 National Science Foundation (U.S.).|bDivision of Science Resources Statistics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /no2002038501|xInformation services.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00006253 610 24 National Science Foundation (U.S.).|bDivision of Science Resources Statistics. 610 27 National Science Foundation (U.S.).|bDivision of Science Resources Statistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 771820 650 0 Federal aid to research|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2008103628|xInformation services. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006253 650 0 Research|zUnited States|xFinance|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008110724|xInformation services. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006253 650 0 Science|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85118610 650 0 Technology|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh2008112688 650 7 Information services.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 972696 650 7 Federal aid to research.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/922270 650 7 Research.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1095153 650 7 Finance.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/924349 650 7 Science.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1108176 650 7 Technology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1145078 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNational Research Council (U.S.).
