Hitler blamed Serbia and the Serbs as the main culprits in the coup. In reprisal, the German military made Serbia into a rump condominium, exploiting it as a strategic base, and as a source of raw materials and cheap labor. In the historiography of World War II in Yugoslavia, the most studied aspect has been guerilla warfare. Western scholars have focused on the regions of the most intense fighting in Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Croatia while wartime Serbia is only mentioned in passing. In "Serbia Under the Swastika," Alexander Prusin focuses on the German occupation of Serbia--the political heartland of pre-World War II Yugoslavia--combining political history with social analysis to explore the interaction between German occupation policies and the forces of resistance and collaboration. Prusin argues that the German occupation policies reflected the rivalries between those who promoted the expansionist and racial vision of the "New Order" and those who advocated a more rational and flexible approach, which entailed a closer reliance on the collaborationist administration and police. Meanwhile, while the situation in Serbia appeared less volatile than in other parts of Yugoslavia, the German occupation policies served as a catalyst for the ferocious internecine conflict between the three native Serbian forces - the Partisans, the nationalist Chetniks, and the pro-German collaborationist regime. However, even as they were locked in a ferocious struggle, the forces of collaboration and resistance often overlapped"--|cProvided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 647 7 Axis Occupation of Yugoslavia|c(Yugoslavia :|d1941-1945) |2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1351986 647 7 World War|d(1939-1945)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1180924 648 7 1918-1945|2fast 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|zSerbia.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010119676 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|xUnderground movements|zSerbia. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008113883 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|xCollaborationists|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85148363|zSerbia.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85195919-781 650 0 Nazis|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85090140 |zSerbia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85195919- 781|xHistory|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006165 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Politics and government.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1919741 650 7 Social conditions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919811 650 7 Nazis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1035219 651 0 Serbia|xHistory|y1918-1945.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85120173 651 0 Yugoslavia|xHistory|yAxis occupation, 1941-1945.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85149476 651 0 Serbia|xPolitics and government|y1918-1945.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh87007615 651 0 Serbia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85195919 |xSocial conditions|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001008860 651 7 Serbia.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1692602 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPrusin, Alexander Victor.|tSerbia under the swastika.|dUrbana : University of Illinois Press, 2017 |z9780252041068|w(DLC) 2016049327 830 0 History of military occupation.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2015043266 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1425168|zOnline eBook.
