Since the beginning of Egyptian history, images of foreigners were used as symbols of chaos and thus shown as captives being bound and trampled under the king's feet. The early 18th dynasty (1550-1372 BCE) was the height of international trade, diplomacy and Egyptian imperial expansion. During this time new images of foreigners bearing tribute became popular in the tombs of the necropolis at Thebes, the burial place of the Egyptian elite. This volume analyses the new presentation of foreigners in these tombs. Far from being chaotic, they are shown in an orderly fashion, carrying tribute that underscores the wealth and prestige of the tomb owner. This orderliness reflects the ability of the Egyptian state to impose order on foreign lands, but also crucially symbolises the tomb owner's ability to overcome the chaos of death and achieve a successful afterlife. Illustrated with colour plates and black-and- white images, this new volume is an important and original study of the significance of these images for the tomb owner and the functioning of the funerary cult 546 English. 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on March 02, 2020). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 1570-1320 B.C.|2fast 650 0 Mural painting and decoration, Egyptian|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85088566|zEgypt|zThebes (Extinct city)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85134616-781 650 0 Mural painting and decoration, Ancient|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh85088547|zEgypt|zThebes (Extinct city)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85134616- 781 650 0 Mural painting and decoration, Egyptian|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85088566|zEgypt|zThebes (Extinct city)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85134616-781|xThemes, motives.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001008982 650 0 Mural painting and decoration, Ancient|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh85088547|zEgypt|zThebes (Extinct city)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85134616- 781|xThemes, motives.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2001008982 650 0 Noncitizens in art.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh98004165 650 0 Symbolism in art.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85131415 650 7 Mural painting and decoration, Egyptian.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1029631 650 7 Mural painting and decoration, Ancient.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1029577 650 7 Themes, motives.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1355139 650 7 Noncitizens in art.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 805323 650 7 Symbolism in art.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1140771 651 0 Egypt|xHistory|yEighteenth dynasty, ca. 1570-1320 B.C. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85041287 651 7 Egypt|zThebes (Extinct city)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1897333 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aAnthony, Flora Brooke.|tForeigners in Ancient Egypt.|dLondon, UK ; New York, NY : Bloomsbury Academic, 2016|z9781474241588|w(DLC) 2016019108 830 0 Bloomsbury Egyptology.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2015117873 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1361377|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
