The first part is about the foundations of the quantum theory which reflects the author's many conversations with the late John Bell who persuaded him that there is still no satisfactory interpretation of the theory. The second part deals with nuclear weapons. One of the essays concerns the creation of the modern gas centrifuge which was done by German prisoners of war in the Soviet Union. The proliferation of these centrifuges was one of the issues in the spread of nuclear weapons. The third section deals with financial engineering with a profile of Louis Bachelier, the French mathematician who created it at the beginning of the 20th century. The final section deals with the Higgs boson and how it is used for generating mass. It includes a detailed article of how this mechanism works. 588 Description based on print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Science|vMiscellanea.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2008111306 650 0 Quantum theory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85109469|vMiscellanea.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001794 650 0 Nuclear weapons|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85093127|vMiscellanea.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001794 650 0 Financial engineering|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh91003887|vMiscellanea.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001794 650 0 Higgs bosons|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh89005038|vMiscellanea.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001794 650 7 Science|xMiscellanea.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1108320 650 7 Quantum theory.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1085128 650 7 Nuclear weapons.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1040971 650 7 Financial engineering.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /924623 650 7 Higgs bosons.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/955984 655 0 Electronic books. 655 7 Trivia and miscellanea.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1921748 655 7 Trivia and miscellanea.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/genreForms/gf2014026201 776 08 |iPrint version:|aBernstein, Jeremy, 1929-|tChorus of bells and other scientific inquiries.|dNew Jersey : World Scientific, [2014]|z9789814578943|w(DLC) 2013038487 |w(OCoLC)871345878 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=787890|zOnline eBook.
