In 1957-58, nine atmospheric nuclear tests were held at Malden Island and Christmas Island--today, part of the Pacific nation of Kiribati. Nearly 14,000 troops travelled to the central Pacific for the UK nuclear testing program--many are still living with the health and environmental consequences. Based on archival research and interviews with nuclear survivors, Grappling with the Bomb presents i-Kiribati woman Sui Kiritome, British pacifist Harold Steele, businessman James Burns, Fijian sailor Paul Ah Poy, English volunteers Mary and Billie Burgess and many other witnesses to Britain's nuclear folly. 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 647 7 Operation Grapple|c(Kiribati :|d1956-1958)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1709908 648 7 1956-1958|2fast 650 0 Operation Grapple, Kiribati, 1956-1958.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88005463 650 0 Nuclear weapons|zGreat Britain|xTesting.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88005467 650 0 Hydrogen bomb|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85063423|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79023147-781|xTesting.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005648 650 0 Nuclear weapons|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85093127|zOceania|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85093910-781|xTesting.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005648 650 0 Hydrogen bomb|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85063423|zOceania|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85093910-781|xTesting.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005648 650 0 Nuclear weapons testing victims|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85093138|zOceania.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 0 Pacific Islanders|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85093920|xHealth and hygiene|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005597|zOceania.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 0 Nuclear explosions|xEnvironmental aspects|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2003008870|zOceania. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 0 Nuclear weapons|xTesting|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85093130|xEnvironmental aspects|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005383|zOceania. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85093910-781 650 7 Nuclear weapons.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1040971 650 7 Testing.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1148240 650 7 Hydrogen bomb.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/965018 650 7 Nuclear weapons testing victims.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1041053 650 7 Pacific Islanders|xHealth and hygiene.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1049997 650 7 Pacific Islanders.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1049992 650 7 Nuclear explosions|xEnvironmental aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1040086 650 7 Nuclear weapons|xTesting|xEnvironmental aspects.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1041011 650 7 Nuclear weapons|xTesting.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1041006 650 7 Military policy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1021386 651 0 Great Britain|xMilitary policy.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007100235 651 7 Great Britain.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 651 7 Oceania.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1242982 655 4 Electronic books. 710 2 Australian National University Press.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/nb2018017990 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMaclellan, Nic.|tGrappling with the bomb.|dActon, A.C.T. : ANU Press, 2017|z9781760461379 |w(OCoLC)991596175 830 0 Pacific series.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2018172245 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt1ws7w90 |zOnline eBook.
