His Weihnachtsoratorium (c. 1722) has been given new life in a scholarly performing edition published by Ortus (1998) and an elegant recording led by conductor Hermann Max. Graun's oratorio is a work that could enhance the usual offering of Christmas works for church, school, and community choirs. Its choral movements are expertly crafted and well within the reach of most choral ensembles. The lyrical arias are full of text imagery and beautiful melodies that foreshadow Graun's success in the opera arena. This paper serves as an introduction to the composer and to the work and includes a movement-by- movement analysis and suggestions for performance. 600 10 Graun, Karl Heinrich,|d1704-1759.|tOratorium in Festum Nativitatis Christi.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n00074914 650 0 Musical analysis.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85088952 650 0 Choral conducting.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85030805 650 7 Musical analysis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1030696 650 7 Choral conducting.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 858519 655 7 Academic theses.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026039 655 7 Academic theses.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1726453 901 MARCIVE 20231220 994 C0|bWCH
