Instead, the law relies upon marriage, domestic partnerships, and contracts to set the parameters of parents' legal relationship. With over forty percent of American children born to unwed mothers and consistently high rates of divorce, this book argues that the law's current approach to regulating parental relationships is outdated. A new legal and social structure is needed to guide parents so they act as supportive partners and to deter uncommitted couples from having children. This book is the first of its kind to propose a new 'parent-partner' status within family law. Included are a detailed discussion of the benefits of the status as well as specific recommendations for legal obligations. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Parent and child (Law)|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh2008108899 650 0 Unmarried couples|xLegal status, laws, etc.|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2010117500 650 0 Single parents|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85122845|xLegal status, laws, etc.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99004999|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Illegitimate children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85064287|xLegal status, laws, etc.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004999|zUnited States. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Domestic relations|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008117530 650 7 Parent and child (Law)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1053336 650 7 Unmarried couples|xLegal status, laws, etc.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/1161981 650 7 Single parents|xLegal status, laws, etc.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1119402 650 7 Single parents.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1119390 650 7 Illegitimate children|xLegal status, laws, etc.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/967206 650 7 Domestic relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 896646 650 7 Illegitimate children.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /967203 650 7 LAW|xAdministrative Law & Regulatory Practice.|2bisacsh 650 7 Unmarried couples.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0001483 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aWeiner, Merle H.|tParent-partner status for American family law|z9781107088085|w(DLC) 2015004875 |w(OCoLC)902854370 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1056194|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
