From the Maharam's responsa on community matters, a coherent political thought emerges that exercised nearly unprecedented influence on European Jewish communities up to the Jewish Emancipation. Rabbi Meir's extremely sophisticated attempt to balance the demands of the community against those of the individual was facilitated by a characteristic three-tiered structure to his political thought: concrete legal rules supported by value -laden legal principles built upon his general religious ideology. Through a systematic analysis of the Maharam's political thought, Isaac Lifshitz offers an original contribution to Jewish studies, political theory, and the study of legal philosophy. By considering the legal and theological underpinnings of one of Medieval Jewry's most influential figures, it also makes a contribution to the history of ideas in the Medieval period. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 00 Meir ben Baruch,|cof Rothenburg,|dapproximately 1215-1293 |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78066951 |xPhilosophy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99005065 600 07 Meir ben Baruch,|cof Rothenburg,|dapproximately 1215-1293. |2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1834242 650 0 Rabbis|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85110190 |zGermany|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80125931- 781|xPhilosophy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99005065 650 0 Jewish philosophy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85100947 650 0 Philosophy, Medieval.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85100956 650 7 Philosophy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1060777 650 7 Rabbis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1086311 650 7 Philosophy, Medieval.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1061057 650 7 Jewish philosophy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1730516 650 7 RELIGION|xJudaism|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 651 7 Germany.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1210272 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|z9781107008243|z1107008247|w(DLC) 2015018951|w(OCoLC)916684460 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1077381|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
